Berlin Blockade.

In BYOD day, we were told to watch some videos and then complete a chart amd answer some questions about the Berlin Blockade. This is my chart that I did with Rochi Hartmann and the questions.  image

 

Questions:

1) After the war, Berlin was divided into four parts. One part belonged to the USSR and other parts belonged to France, Great Britain and USA.

2) The USSR was determined to try to get away from the west, but wasnt able to.

3) It was a key issue because the eastern allies used the currency so they could all be equal. But at the same time it differed from both sides.

4) It was a major feat because USA found a way to sustain the east without going through the west. It also showed that Stalin was doing everything he could to stay away.

5) There Was a lot of tension while the airlift. If USA  broke down the barriers that blocked the roads, the USSR would see it as an act of war, and if the USSR shot down  the airplanes, USA would see it as an act of war. There was a lot of tension because people didnt know what usa was throwing and also they didn’t know if  the planes would be shot down .

6) He agreed because it benefited him

7) I would say, the soviets, since stalin was the one who was obsessed with comunism and feared capitalism to a certain extent, that he took certain harsh measures. While USA was just trying to apply the policy of containment.

Language Exam Online.

On our Language we were talking about trying to use more our devices, so our teacher came up with the idea of making an online  exam for us.Here is mine.

TASK 1

This is the poem I chose:

The Race Industry – By Benjamin Zephaniah.

The coconuts have got the jobs.
The race industry is a growth industry.
We despairing, they careering.
We want more peace they want more police.
The Uncle Toms are getting paid.
The race industry is a growth industry.
We say sisters and brothers don’t fear.
They will do anything for the Mayor.
The coconuts have got the jobs.
The race industry is a growth industry.
They’re looking for victims and poets to rent.
They represent me without my consent.
The Uncle Toms are getting paid.
The race industry is a growth industry.
In suits they dither in fear of anarchy.
They take our sufferings and earn a salary.
Steal our souls and make their documentaries.
Inform daily on our community.
Without Black suffering they’d have no jobs.
Without our dead they’d have no office.
Without our tears they’d have no drink.
If they stopped sucking we could get justice.
The coconuts are getting paid.
Men, women and Brixton are being betrayed.

I chose this poem because, when we watched a video about Benjamin’s biography, he mentioned that he was still mad at the British crown for not apologizing for slavery. He also talked about how slavery was really present in his ancestors, so when I read this poem I thought the ideas were very clear and it was indeed talking about something very personal.

For me this poem screams slavery. I think that Zephaniah is trying to tell the story of slavery, how were slaves treated, what benefits did white people get for translating slaves from one place to another, what slaves had to go through in order for white people to be pleased and such.

One of the Literary devices I found was a metaphor, which can be seen in this line: “The coconuts have got the jobs”.  When Zephaniah refers to the coconuts, he means black people. When we see a coconut, from the outside, it looks black, but when you open a coconut, on the inside its white, and so is every coconut in the world. For me the writer is trying to say that, it does not matter what is on the outside, what matters is on the inside, we are all the same in the inside, we all deserve equal rights and in this case we all need to do things for ourselves rather than have someone do things for you. Another Literary device I found was another metaphor  for ” the race industry is a growth industry”.  Which I think means that, Slavery, in the past, was getting bigger and nobody was doing anything to protect black people.

My Interview

Interviewer: Hello, Its nice to have you here mr zephaniah

Benajamin: Thank you for having me here

I: I heard you’re a very interesting man, you write about certain topics and you have a different lifestyle from others.

B: Well yes, I am rastafarian, I chose to be this way and I love it. My poem topics are based on my past and on my ancestors.

I: Had you known you were going to be a very successful writer, would you have worked as hard as you did?

B: No I dont think so, If you know what things will come to you before they even happen, you wont work as hard as if you never knew what would happen next.

I: Thats very good! Let talk about your poem “The Race Industry”, What brought you to write this?

B: Well my ancestors were slaves and im black, so I took the chance to express my opinion about slavery and to make a remark that slavery was completely wrong.

I: What came to you when you  wrote this poem?

B: I was really angry and One day I just wrote my thoughts on a paper. Little did I know that later I would turn it into a poem

I: Thats very Interesting! I heard that you were still mad at the crown, why is that?

B: I have a really good reason, They never apologized sincerely for slavery, I respect them and everything but Im still waiting for an Apology, Not for my peace, If not me for my Family peace

I: Thats a fair statement. I agree with you.

B: Thank you, people tend to Disagree with my opinions.

I: Tell me more about what inspires you to write.

B: Alot of things actually. My surroundings and people do it the most

I: What example can you give me?

B:  I tend to look a lot when im walking, I try to look beyond people, and what I see I put it into words

I: That is a very good technique. What do you do with the money you earn

B: Actually I dont acknowledge how much money I have , I life the  same way I would have lived it if I wasn’t famous.

I: Thats very good! It was a pleasure to meet you Benjamin

B: Pleasure to meet you too, I really enjoyed it.

I: I learnt a lot about you, very fun.

B: Good!

 

Enzimes And Temperature.

In our Biology class we started seeing the Enzimes and how they work. To help us understand the topic we went to the lab and worked on Catalase  and what effect did Temperature have on them.  On her blog male gave us a task for us to comoplete in groups. Here is mine:

Sandpiper Analysis.

On a Literature class we Analysed the story “Sandpiper” so as a homework our teacher gave us 21 questions to answer. I forgot to post them so now im posting them really late. These are my answers.

 

 

WORKSHEET 1

1) She didn’t want to leave patterns on the sand because she didn’t want to change life and destiny as it was meant to be, she tried to keep what was coming for her.

2) This quote is from the first paragraph of the story, by this the writer means that the woman was determined to accept the consequences of the life she had made, she did not want to change her path and only believed nature had the right to do such thing.

3) I believe this is a reflection of how the woman had to adapt herself to a new culture, new foods, a new language and other things itself in order to balance her marriage and to make her daughter happy.

4) In my opinion the sea totally represents her life, the sea is never the same, sometimes is calm, sometimes not so much and other times it goes furious. The stages of the sea represent everything that the woman suffered until that moment.

5) What this quote represents for me is how the woman tried to to dig deeper and deeper trying to get a hold of all the things she had before she married and had to change her whole lifestyle.

WORKSHEET 2

1) I do believe it represents how not only her marriage changed, but also her husband and ho she cant grasp her culture as she used to.

2) The woman continuously goes back to her old life because she misses her old culture, she misses everything about it and she does not feel comfortable the way she is living her life st the moment.

4)The woman and her husband had been very happy for a very long period of time and they shares very valuable memories together.

5) The couple did a lot of things together and by this I think the quotation means that they both missed how they were before, but it wasn’t a sad missing if not one that she felt sometimes but she knew she could bring those moments back to life whenever she wanted to.

WORKSHEET 3

2) The woman is very happy about her  baby, Id say it brought back happiness to her that she hadn’t felt maybe in some time and it gave her a part of herself.

3) I think that her state of mind is really negative, like shes trying to get a hold of her culture again but she cant and shes giving up so she sees her path further and further very time like she cant reach it anymore.

4) I think it gives an impact on how shes so determined on the things she should have done, if she had left and looked forward to a better future where she wouldn’t have to be someone she wasn’t, she might have been happier, more comfortable, at peace with herself for going back to where she truly belonged.

5) She hates the fact that she isn’t allowed to do anything, there is always someone getting their hands dirty for her (not in a bad way) and she does not like that at all.

6) The woman was determined to stay for the sake of her daughter, since she believed that it was essential for Lucy to have both of her parents present at that moment of her life.

WORKSHEET 4

1)  The woman seems to be really happy, she felt important. The maid didn’t let her do anything so she finally felt of use and it busted her confidence.

4) I think the woman must have felt very hurt on how women were portrayed as weak.

5) Egypt is not a liberating country for women, i do believe this damaged the relationship because both were such different cultures, even though they say opposites attract, sometimes they crash and create a very negative atmosphere.

6) Both of them are together so Lucy can grow up happily but not both of them agree on Lucy learning a certain language and having a certain culture, different from the mother.
